6 MIT Graduates Who Tasted Great Success after University

As we all know, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, commonly abbreviated as MIT, is one of the most prestigious universities across the globe. Even more astonishingly, it has captured the first spot in the QS World University Rankings for seven straight years and has also overtaken Stanford’s first spot in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2019.

Furthermore, MIT acquired the perfect score for the “alumni outcomes” indicator by associating with a staggering 91 Nobel Prize winners. While over one-third of the US’s manned missions in space are boarded by MIT-graduate astronauts.

 

As for this discussion, let’s name and talk about some of the elite names in the global industry who have proudly pursued their education through MIT and have their names as the institution’s most successful alumni.

Kofi Annan

Obviously, I am starting with the best MIT graduate ever (in my opinion), not only because he acquired education at MIT, Cheap Essay 247 but due to his contribution in the global peace and international governance. Kofi Annan was the 7thSecretary-General of UN holding the seat from 1997 to 2006. In 2001, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize alongside UN for their contribution for making the world a better, peaceful place. Besides that, Kofi Annan also established his own Kofi Annan Foundation—an independent, non-profit organization with the aim to streamline international governance activities and support underprivileged countries and people for improving their quality of life.After his death on 18th August, the current UN Secretary-General declared Kofi Annan as a “A champion for peace and a guiding force for good”.

Buzz Aldrin

Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon acquired his doctorate degree in astronautics from MIT in 1963. In his dissertation presentation, he presented a paper on “Line-of-sight Guidance Techniques for Manned Orbital Rendezvous”. His famous autobiography, titled “magnificent desolation”, was named after what he called the first impression of the moon. Besides his core profession, Buzz Aldrin has also been a former US Air Force officer and command pilot. Furthermore, the former astronaut has stated his backing for a manned mission and human colonization of Mars by 2040.

Ilene S. Gordon

Ilene S. Gordon is an American business executive, and the President, CEO and Chairman of Ingredion—a leading global ingredients solutions company. She acquired her BSc in Mathematics from MIT in 1975, but later switched her mind towards entering the business management field. Sticking to her desire to become a business magnate, in 1976 she graduated with a Master of Science from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Receiving worldwide acclaim for her success, in 2015 she was ranked 45th in the Fortune Magazine’s list of 50 Most Powerful Women in Business.

Richard Feynman

Richard Feynman pursued the course “Introduction to Theoretical Physics” in his 2nd year at MIT, a relatively advanced course primarily aimed for postgraduate students. After graduating in 1929, he then pursued the doctorate program from Princeton University before undertaking the Manhattan Project, due to the fact that he was insisted on creating the first atomic bomb before the German Nazis could. Furthermore, Feynman started lecturing in both Cornell University and Caltech and worked in path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, theory of quantum electrodynamics, and contribution in particle physics to name a few. He was awarded a Nobel Prize for his significant contribution in theoretical physics in 1965.

Jonah Peretti

Jonah Peretti, co-founder of The Huffington Post and the co-founder and CEO of BuzzFeed, acquired his bachelor’s degree from University of California, Santa Cruz before enrolling in MIT’s Media Lab to complete a postgraduate degree program. Over his tenure in MIT, he became famous for his correspondence with Nike regarding his request to print “sweatshop” on custom-made shoes. He also developed the mechanism of reblogging under the umbrella of “reblog”.

Shirley Ann Jackson

Shirley Ann Jackson holds the honor of being the first African-American women to earn a doctorate degree from MIT. Having studies advanced nuclear physics, she acquired the Chairman seat of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission during Clinton’s tenure in office, and is also the 18thPresident of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 2007, Shirley was bestowed with the Vannevar Bush Award by the National Science Board for “a lifetime of achievements in scientific research, education and senior statesman-like contributions to public policy”. Her contribution in the industry also won her the National Medal of Science in 2016 covering her research in particle physics and condensed matter. Furthermore, she authored the book, “Envisioning a 21st Century Science and Engineering Workforce for the United Stated” in which she explained her views on the difficulties for the science and engineering workforce in the 21st century.
