About Student Life Online

Student Life Online is an independent blog for students and everyone planning to study, online since 2012. We publish practical guides on study skills, choosing a degree and a university, online learning, money and careers, plus news and background on higher education and on how AI is changing the way students learn.

Who runs Student Life Online

Student Life Online is run by Carsten Kraft, an IT consultant and software developer from Germany with more than 25 years of professional experience (more on carsten-kraft.com and LinkedIn), who also runs the technology blogs Tech Crates and techuni.de.

Who writes the articles

Articles published under the name “Student Education” come from our editorial team. Many guest authors, including students, teachers and career coaches, have contributed over the years; their name and a short bio appear below each of their articles.

How we write, check and update articles

  • General information, not personal advice. Our articles do not replace advice from your school, your university or a financial or legal professional. Deadlines, fees, test formats and admission rules change, so always check them with the official source, such as the university or studentaid.gov.
  • AI tools. Some news and background articles are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and then edited. AI can get details wrong, so published articles are reviewed against the original sources; mistakes are corrected, and articles that cannot be fixed are taken down.
  • Older articles show the year they were first published at the top. In October 2026 we reviewed the whole archive: popular guides were rewritten and updated, outdated articles were removed from search results or taken offline, and dead links were removed.
  • Guest articles are reviewed and edited before they are published. We do not publish essay-writing or exam-dump services, and we do not accept articles written mainly to place links; external links in guest articles are marked “nofollow”. See Write for Student Life Online.
  • Advertising. Student Life Online is financed by ads from Google AdSense. Ads appear in separate ad slots, and advertisers have no influence on what we write.
